About the race
SoCal's Sunset Trick or Trot takes place on October 24, 2026 at Lot 25, Bolsa Chica State Beach in Huntington Beach, California. The event returns for a second year as an evening Halloween-themed run and family event. Distances offered: - 5K Run/Walk (3.1 miles) - 10K Run/Walk (6.21 miles) - Youth 1/2 Mile Zombie Run (0.5 miles) - Pumpkin Dash 200m The on-site Trunk or Treat Expo features decorated trunks handing out treats, selfie stations, games, and giveaways. Participants receive a fall-themed event shirt and a custom reversible finisher medal; only registered participants with a bib receive medals.
Food options include street tacos, aguas frescas, coffee, and cookies. Packet pickup is located at the Trunk or Treat Expo; there is no early-day pickup. Timing is done with RFID chip timing. Registration entry includes a trick-or-treat bag and entry into costume and team contests, with eligibility for age group and overall awards. Awards include top three in five-year age divisions from ages 1 to 80+, top three overall male and female finishers, best Halloween costume, best uniform-themed costume, and awards for oldest and youngest finishers.
The course is flat, paved, and scenic with ocean views; start and finish are at Lot 25. Paid parking is available at the state beach; limited free parking is available in Sunset Beach for walk-in access. Leashed pets are allowed with a maximum 5 foot leash and strollers are permitted with requests to position near the back. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
