Firecracker 5K Run/4K Walk : Mount Vernon, KY
The Firecracker event takes place on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Renfro Valley Entertainment Center in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky. It offers two routed road events on a flat course through the Renfro Valley area.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Mount Vernon Lions Club. Awards are presented to the overall male and female winners and to the top three male and female finishers in each age group: 12 and under; 13–19; 20–29; 30–39; 40–49; 50–59; 60–69; 70–79; 80 and over. There are also awards for the top three fastest male and female walkers.
A student program is part of the event. All students age 4–18 may participate free of charge; that free registration does not include a shirt, which may be added for an extra fee. Students who complete at least seven races in the 2026 series will receive a $25 gift card and a custom t-shirt at the end of the series. Students must complete the event by running or walking to be eligible for awards and incentives.
Registrations completed by August 12 are eligible to receive a commemorative race t-shirt; shirts are not guaranteed after that date. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
