Bluegrass Reaper Challenge : event description
The Bluegrass Reaper Challenge is an endurance running event held at Berea City Park in Berea, Kentucky. The event uses a roughly 2.6 mile loop and a lap-based format in which laps begin every 40 minutes. Each runner must complete every lap within 40 minutes; runners who do not finish a lap in that time are removed from the event. If a runner completes a lap in under 40 minutes, they wait until the next lap start before continuing.
Distances offered include:
- 50K 12 x 2.6 mi
- 50K Relay teams of 2 to 5
- Marathon 10 x 2.6 mi
- Half Marathon 5 x 2.6 mi
- 10K 3 x 2.6 mi
Finish times are calculated from each runner’s lap splits and do not include rest time between laps. Relay teams receive a single final time composed of the team’s lap running times. Relay rules require teams of 2 to 5 and generally prohibit a runner from running consecutive laps, with exceptions for injury or unavoidable circumstances.
The course is fully paved, described as a road race, with approximately 140 feet of ascent and 140 feet of descent per lap. There are no aid stations on the loop. Event facilities include a picnic shelter with indoor restrooms, a playground, softball fields for a tent area, and base camp near the pool and volleyball courts. Parking is at the main City Park lot behind Berea Community School at 6 Pirate Pkwy, Berea KY 40403.
Every finisher receives a custom finisher award or medal. Top three men and women in each race receive handmade awards; top three non-binary division awards will be given if at least three participants register in that division. There are no age group awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
