Fall Backyard Burn at Hemlock Overlook
The Fall Backyard Burn at Hemlock Overlook is a trail running event on Sunday November 15, 2026 in Clifton, VA at Hemlock Overlook Park along the Bull Run. The course uses hiking trails, old dirt roads, and open fields and runs alongside the river through a 425 acre park with frequent wildlife sightings.
The trail surface includes rocks and roots. The course is designed with spectator friendly areas where family and friends can watch racers.
Distances offered include:
- 5.2 miles: 1 lap, 600 feet elevation gain
- 9.5 miles: 2 laps, 1,200 feet elevation gain
Park bathrooms are available at the start and finish; 5 milers pass bathrooms near mile 2.6, and 10 milers pass them near miles 2.6 and 7. Parking is staged inside the programming area and in adjacent gravel lots and fields; attendees should follow race parking signs and volunteer directions.
A supervised kids program runs during race morning with nature activities, a short kids race for ages 2 to 11, and related programming; pre-registration is required and program fees apply. Race rules include no in ear headphones, no pets or pacers, no baby strollers on course, visible race numbers worn on the front, and staying on designated trails. There are no cut off times.
