Fall Backyard Burn - Hemlock Overlook
This event is part of the Fall Backyard Burn trail series and takes place at Hemlock Overlook in Clifton, VA on Sunday November 15, 2026. The course runs along the banks of Bull Run inside a 425 acre park and uses a mix of hiking trails, old dirt roads, and open fields. Wildlife sightings such as deer, beaver, turkey, osprey and great blue heron are noted in the park.
The route includes sections of the Bull Run Occoquan Trail and features rocky and root-strewn terrain alongside the stream. The course design includes several areas designated for family and friends to watch racers. Elevation gain is provided for each distance and the route uses mostly natural surfaces with minimal pavement.
Distances:
- 5.2 miles (one lap), 600 feet elevation
- 9.5 miles (two laps), 1,200 feet elevation
Additional event information notes a kid's program available the morning of the race, designated parking areas near the main trailhead and adjacent lots, and a set of race rules. Rules include no in-ear headphones, no pets or pacers, visible race numbers, no strollers on course, and a requirement to stay on designated trails.
