Elgin Valley Fox Trot
The Elgin Valley Fox Trot takes place in Elgin, Illinois, along the Fox River. This event marks the 49th consecutive year of the competition, which includes USATF certified courses for the primary running distances. Participants can choose from the following event distances:
- 10 Miles
- 5K
- 2K (Fun Walk)
The 10-mile route passes through the north end neighborhoods of Elgin and follows the Fox River Trail toward Dundee. The course includes a section up Cedar Avenue at the eight-mile mark before returning downhill on Grove Avenue. The 5K course starts at the intersection of Grove Avenue and Ann Street, winding through historic residential areas. It concludes with a downhill stretch on Grove Avenue toward the finish line.
The event features a dedicated youth category for the 5K race available to participants aged 19 and under. Area high schools can compete for a traveling trophy awarded to the school with the highest number of participating athletes. A 2K untimed walk is also available, which includes a participant bib and t-shirt.
Multiple local non-profit organizations benefit from the event and provide volunteers across the course. A post-race gathering is held featuring an awards presentation, sponsor expo, music, and food trucks. Refreshments and specialized treats for children are provided throughout the celebration area.
