Course and aid
The course starts at Sandy Seep Trailhead and follows Christmas Tree Trail toward Elden Lookout Trail, climbs to the summit of Mt. Elden, then descends via lookout tower road to Sunset Trail and New Heart Trail. The route includes single track, technical sections, and rocky terrain, then links into Old Little Elden before returning toward Sandy Seep and the finish near the trailhead. One aid station is provided at about 6 miles with water, electrolyte beverage, and other fuel options. A strict checkpoint is located at approximately 5 miles at the summit area with a 2 hour cutoff; the total race cutoff is 4 hours. Volunteers will be stationed at key intersections and at the final turn to direct racers.
Logistics and rules
Parking is at Sandy Seep Trailhead; the lot is primitive, high clearance vehicles are recommended, and space is limited to about 30 vehicles. Organizers ask participants to carpool; a shuttle and overflow spots at Elden Pueblo or Peaks Ranger Station are being considered. No pacers are allowed. Outside aid is not permitted except at the official aid station. Poles are allowed but must be carried for the entire race. Two portable toilets will be available at start/finish. The summit can experience gusting winds and low temperatures in October. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
