Babbitts Backyard Ultra

Event Overview

The Babbitts Backyard Ultra is a Last Person Standing race located near Flagstaff, Arizona. The event takes place in the vicinity of the SP Crater, featuring a course that consists of a combination of dirt trails and roads. Participants experience approximately 150 feet of elevation gain per loop, with views of the volcanic crater and the nearby Peaks.

Race Format and Rules

The competition follows traditional backyard ultra rules where participants must complete a 4.167-mile loop every hour. The race continues until only one runner remains capable of finishing a loop within the time limit.

• Start Procedure: A bell signals the start of each loop every hour. Warning whistles are sounded three minutes, two minutes, and one minute before each start. Runners must be inside the starting corral when the bell rings to continue.
• Timing: Each loop must be completed within 60 hour to be counted. This includes the final lap required to win the event.
• Course Regulations: Runners may not leave the course except for restroom breaks and cannot receive personal aid while on a loop. Artificial aids, such as trekking poles, are prohibited.
• Support: Water is provided during the event, but runners are responsible for their own additional personal aid. Each participant is allocated a 10-foot by 10-foot space near the start and finish area for their gear and a single crew member.

The winner is the last person to complete a solo loop. All other participants are classified as DNF (Did Not Finish), though results will reflect the total distance covered by every individual.
