Babbitts Backyard Ultra
Babbitts Backyard Ultra is scheduled for September 26, 2026 in Flagstaff, AZ, held near SP Crater at the Tub Ranch Road area. The format uses repeated timed loops: each loop covers 4.167 miles over a combination of dirt trails and road with about 150 ft of elevation gain and views of the crater and the Peaks.
Each loop begins precisely one hour after the prior loop. Competitors must be in the starting corral at the bell and all runners must start at the bell; warnings are given three, two and one minutes before each start. A loop must be completed within one hour to count, including the final lap. The event continues with successive loops until only one runner is left who can complete a loop; that runner is recorded as the winner and others are recorded as not finishing.
Course rules state no non competitors on the course, no late starts, no personal aid during a loop except restroom stops, and no artificial aids including trekking poles. Slower runners must allow passes. Water is available on course and runners receive a 10 foot by 10 foot space near the start finish for personal aid between loops. One crew member at a time per runner is allowed. Hand sanitizer will be available and social distancing will be observed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
