Babbitts Backyard Ultra
Babbitts Backyard Ultra is a Last Person Standing ultramarathon held near SP Crater in Flagstaff, AZ, close to the 447-448 mile post on Tub Ranch Road. The course follows a mix of dirt trails and road with approximately 150 ft of elevation gain and views of the crater and the Peaks.
The event uses repeated one-hour loops. Each loop is 4.167 miles long and must be completed within the hour to count. A bell signals the start of each loop and a three-, two- and one-minute whistle warning is given before each start. Competitors must be in the starting corral at the bell and must start with the field; late starts are not allowed. Except for restroom breaks, competitors may not leave the course until they finish the loop.
Key race rules and services include no non-competitors on course (including eliminated runners), no personal aid during a loop, no artificial aids, and a requirement that slower runners allow passes. Water will be available on course. Each runner is allocated a 10 by 10 foot space near the start/finish; one crew member at a time per runner is allowed. Runners who stop are required to vacate their space. Results record distance covered; the event ends when a single runner completes a final loop and is declared the winner. The event is organized as a not-for-profit and will observe social distancing and provide hand sanitizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
