Babbitts Backyard Ultra
Babbitts Backyard Ultra is a Last Person Standing running event held near the 447-448 mile post on Tub Ranch Road in Flagstaff, AZ, near SP Crater. The course mixes dirt trails and road and has approximately 150 feet of elevation gain with views of the crater and the Peaks.
The format requires runners to complete a repeating loop of 4.167 miles each hour. A bell signals each loop start and competitors receive three, two, and one minute warnings before the bell. Runners must be in the starting corral at the bell and each loop must be completed within the hour to count.
Event rules restrict aid and course access. No personal aid is allowed while on a loop; water is available on course and runners are responsible for their personal supplies. Competitors may not leave the course during a loop except for restrooms. No non-competitors or eliminated runners are allowed on course and artificial aids including trekking poles are prohibited. Each runner is assigned a 10 foot by 10 foot space near the start/finish and one crew member at a time per runner is permitted.
The winner is the last person to complete a loop; the event continues until only one runner completes a loop and then ends. Results list distance covered for each participant. The event is organized as a not for profit activity; net proceeds will support local businesses or a non-profit. Registration closes Thu, Sep 24 at 11:59 PM MT.
