Babbitts Backyard Ultra - Flagstaff, AZ
Babbitts Backyard Ultra is a Last Person Standing event held near SP Crater in Flagstaff, AZ. The format requires competitors to complete a loop of 4.167 miles each hour; each loop must be finished within the hour and the race continues until only one runner completes a loop alone. Competitors must be in the starting corral at the bell; a three, two and one minute whistle sequence is given before each hourly start and each loop begins precisely one hour after the last.
The course combines dirt trails and road with approximately 150 feet of elevation gain per loop and includes views of the crater and the Peaks. Water is available on course and each runner is assigned a 10 foot by 10 foot space near the start/finish for personal aid between loops.
Key event rules state that no personal aid is allowed during a loop, competitors may not leave the course except for restrooms, no non competitors are permitted on the course, and artificial aids including trekking poles are prohibited. One crew member at a time per runner is allowed. Results record each runner's distance covered and the event ends as soon as a winner is determined.
