Groovin' in the Aspens
Groovin' in the Aspens is a trail running event held at the Fort Valley Trailhead in Flagstaff, Arizona. Formerly known as Gaspin' in the Aspens, the race is organized by Bear Jaw Events and takes place within the pine forests and aspen groves of Flagstaff's trail systems. The event offers a variety of distances to accommodate different preferences.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 6K
- 10K
- 20K
- 30K
- 50K
The 6K course follows a relatively flat route on smooth terrain surrounding the expo area. The 10K route features a mix of single-track trails and jeep roads with 682 feet of elevation gain. The 20K option also utilizes mostly single-track and some jeep roads, totaling 900 feet of elevation gain. For the longer distances, the 30K consists of one Black loop and one Blue loop, while the 50K is composed of two Black loops and one Blue loop. Aid stations are positioned along the course at intervals of no more than seven miles.
All participants receive a custom event finisher's medal and a custom event t-shirt. Pre-race and post-race snacks, including fruit, granola bars, water, and electrolyte drinks, are provided at the venue. Packet pickup is available both on the Friday preceding the race at a local cafe and at the trailhead on the morning of the event. While wheelchairs, strollers, and wagons are permitted, the organizer notes that certain sections of the trail terrain may be difficult to navigate with these items.
