The Event
The Doc Dash is an annual running event hosted by the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Established in 1989, this tradition raises funds for the Iowa City Free Medical and Dental Clinic and the University of Iowa Mobile Clinic, which provide healthcare services to underserved or uninsured populations.
The main course begins at the medical campus in Iowa City. Participants travel through local neighborhoods and along a river trail before returning to the campus for the finish. The event features an adaptive division for participants with physical, intellectual, or visual impairments. Physical therapy students are available to assist adaptive participants who use specialized equipment or require support on the course.
Distances
- 5 km (Main race for runners, walkers, and adaptive participants)
- Docling Dash (Variable-lap race for children aged 10 or younger)
The Docling Dash takes place in the courtyard of the Medical Education and Research Facility (MERF). Children receive medals upon crossing the finish line of their final lap. The event also includes a discounted registration category for K-12 and university students. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
