Event Overview
Doc Dash is an annual 5K race organized by the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. It has been a tradition since 1989.
Race Details
The main 5K event is open to runners, walkers, and adaptive participants. An adaptive division welcomes participants with a physical, intellectual, or visual impairment that impacts their ability to ambulate. The event partners with physical therapy students to support these adaptive participants. The race starts on the medical campus and travels through nearby neighborhoods and a river trail before returning to the finish line.
Before the 5K, a free children's event called the Docling Dash takes place. It is a variable-lap race held in the courtyard of the Medical Education and Research Facility (MERF) and is recommended for participants aged 10 or younger.
Beneficiaries
Proceeds from the event are donated to the Iowa City Free Medical and Dental Clinic and the University of Iowa Mobile Clinic. These organizations provide services to uninsured or under-insured populations and draw volunteers from the College of Medicine and other healthcare disciplines.
