University of Iowa's Relay For Life Ribbon Run 5K

The Ribbon Run 5K is part of Relay For Life of the University of Iowa, hosted by the American Cancer Society and the ACS at U'Iowa student organization. The event takes place in Iowa City and uses Hubbard Park as the start and finish location.

The primary distance is a 5K (3.1 mile) course offered in timed formats and an untimed walk option. Event categories include Student 5K (Timed), General 5K (Timed), 5K Walk (Untimed), and General Admission. In-person check-in will be available at Hubbard Park on the event date, and all participants are required to complete a waiver and photo release form; online registrants will have completed these waivers during registration.

The organizer notes practical details for participants: comfortable running shoes and apparel associated with a cancer awareness ribbon are encouraged, water stations and volunteers will be positioned along the route, and due to construction the course will include a double-back section with directional signs or markers to follow. The race route and additional event details are scheduled to be announced in spring 2026.

This event functions as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Proceeds support cancer research grants, lodging services for patients such as the Russel and Ann Gerdin Hope Lodge in Iowa City, and patient programs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
