The Milk Run
The Milk Run is an annual family friendly event held in Ely, Iowa, designed to support the Give-a-Gallon program. This initiative helps provide fresh milk to local food pantries and agencies throughout the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City area. The event offers two distinct distances for participants:
- 5k
- 1 Mile
Both the 5k and the 1-mile courses take participants through the city of Ely and utilize public trails. Those participating in the 5k route pass by Touchberry Farm, where cows can be seen grazing. For the first time, both distances are chip-timed, allowing participants to track their official finishing times. The 1-mile race begins shortly after the 5k race has started.
The start and finish lines are located outside of Dan and Debbie’s Creamery at 1600 Main Street. Participants who register by the designated deadline in May are eligible to receive an event t-shirt. Following the completion of the race, all registered runners receive a pint of chocolate milk.
The event is accessible for families, and strollers are permitted on the course. However, dogs, bicycles, and motorized vehicles are not allowed. As the race takes place on public trails, participants are expected to share the path with other public users and follow standard rules of the road. Packet pickup is available both the day before the event and on the morning of the races at the creamery. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
