Red Shoe Run & Walk 5K
The 42nd Annual Red Shoe Run & Walk 5K is an community event held in Iowa City to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois. The event is open to participants of all ages and abilities, and it welcomes those using strollers as well as leashed pets. The primary goal of the gathering is to raise funds and awareness for the charity's mission of supporting families during medical care.
The course for the event begins and ends at Lower City Park in Iowa City. For the 2026 edition, an updated race route is being introduced while maintaining the same start and finish location. Participants can choose between in-person activities or a virtual option for those unable to attend at the park. Available distances and formats include:

On-site festivities at Lower City Park include pre-race snacks, a dedicated kids zone, and awards presented to top runners across several age categories. Following the completion of the 5K, a complimentary lunch is provided for participants. Official event t-shirts are guaranteed for those who register by April 1, with later registrants receiving shirts on a first-come, first-served basis during packet pickup or on the day of the event.
