About the race
The Red Shoe Run & Walk 5K is the 43rd annual fundraising event presented by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois to raise funds and awareness for keeping families close to the care they need.
The event offers both an in-person 5K Run/Walk and a virtual 5K Run/Walk. The in-person course begins and ends at Lower City Park in Iowa City, 200 Park Road, IA 52246. Strollers and leashed pets are allowed. On-site activities include pre-race snacks, a kids zone, awards for top runners across multiple age groups, and a free lunch after the race.
Registration details are as follows: in-person registration opens December 1, 2026 and closes January 9, 2027; virtual registration opens December 1, 2026 and closes May 3, 2027. The registration fee is $40.00. Participants who register by April 1 are guaranteed an official Red Shoe Run T-shirt; registrations after April 1 receive shirts on a first-come, first-served basis at packet pickup and on race day.
