Trail Running Along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal
The David Irving Memorial Race is a fundraising event held in memory of a family member lost to Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Located on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal at Wyther Lane in Kirkstall, Leeds, the event aims to raise both funds and awareness for MND research and support. Runners and supporters are encouraged to wear blue or orange in solidarity during the activities.
Participants can choose from four distinct distances:
- 5 km (minimum age 16)
- 10 km
- Half Marathon (minimum age 17)
- Marathon (minimum age 18), which consists of two laps of the half marathon course.
All races are licensed by the Trail Running Association under UKA Rules. The event operates as a cup-less race, requiring all participants to bring their own reusable bottles or cups for use at aid stations. Safety regulations prohibit the use of over-ear headphones; however, bone-conduction or one-ear earphones are permitted.
The event does not have a fixed entry fee. Instead, participants are asked to provide a minimum donation on the day of the race. For logistics and arrivals, the nearest rail connection is Headingley Station. There is no parking available at the immediate start or finish area, so the use of nearby public parking or car sharing is advised. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
