Dale Head
The Dale Head Fell Race, organized by Keswick Athletic Club, is a challenging 7.8 km (4.8 miles) mountain race with 675 meters (2,215 feet) of ascent, held in Borrowdale. Part of the Borrowdale Shepherds Meet, the race features steep, rocky climbs and navigational challenges, often in wet and windy weather. Participants must carry essential kit, including waterproof clothing, a compass, and a whistle.
The route starts at Rosthwaite Institute, crosses farmland, ascends Dale Head via Rigghead quarry, and descends back to the start. The event attracts experienced fell runners and has a rich history, with notable performances recorded in recent years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
