Lakeland Trails at Helvellyn
Lakeland Trails at Helvellyn takes place on 31st October 2026 in Glenridding on the shores of Ullswater. Events follow well marked and marshalled circuits on footpaths and bridleways into the foothills of Helvellyn, passing through ancient woodlands and offering elevated views of Ullswater and surrounding peaks.
Courses include a mix of scenic trails with short sections of tarmac. Underfoot is generally good for those used to off road running, but some sections can be tricky. Runners must carry their own water because there are no water stations on course. Gates may be unstaffed so competitors should close them after passing. In ear headphones are not allowed; bone conduction devices are permitted. Dogs are not permitted on the course.
Recommended and potentially compulsory kit in poor weather includes a hat, gloves, waterproof jacket and over-trousers or running tights. Trail running shoes are recommended.
Entry specifics and age limits vary by distance:
- 5k for ages 12 and over
- 10k for ages 16 and over, time limit 2 hours
- 15k for ages 18 and over; Challenge time limit 3.5 hours, Race time limit 2 hours
