Langdale Road Running Marathon and Half
The event offers a road Marathon and a Half Marathon on a scenic loop through the Great and Little Langdale valleys, with the start and finish at the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel. The Marathon is two laps of the route and the Half Marathon is one lap. The Marathon has a total ascent of 3418' / 1035 m; the Half Marathon records about 1709' of climb. Runners pass the steep climb up to Blea Tarn with gradients up to 1 in 4.
The course is mostly on undulating, narrow and winding single-track road with a mixture of smooth tarmac, loose sections and potholes (notably around Blea Tarn between mile 2 and mile 3). The road is not closed to traffic; signage, marshals and traffic management personnel are in place at key points. Runners must keep to the left and follow marshals' instructions at junctions.
