Langdale Road Running Marathon and Half Marathon
The event offers two road races on a clockwise loop around Great and Little Langdale in the Lake District, starting and finishing at the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel. Distances:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
The route runs mainly on narrow, winding single track road with a mixture of smooth tarmac and sections with potholes and loose surfaces, notably around Blea Tarn. The course includes steep climbs with gradients up to 1 in 4. The Marathon has a stated total elevation gain of 3418 feet (1035 m); the Half includes about 1709 feet of climb.
Traffic is present on the course; signage, marshals and traffic management are used and runners are asked to keep to the left and follow marshal instructions at junctions. Dogs are not permitted on the course. Over ear and in ear headphones are not allowed; bone conducting devices are permitted.
Water stations and feeds are provided: three water stations on the Half and seven on the Marathon, with jellies, a vegan alternative, and a ready made electrolyte drink. Runners are asked to carry their own water or cup. Medical cover includes Advanced Life Support medics and radio communications for marshals. The Marathon has two cut offs with maximum elapsed times of 3 hours 30 minutes and 5 hours 20 minutes at specified points. Race numbers, medals and event T shirts are managed at registration and at the finish area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
