Langdale Marathon and Half
The Langdale event offers road marathon and half marathon distances in the Lake District National Park, with the event centre at the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel and the start on the field in front of the hotel. The courses are clockwise loops on mostly undulating, narrow and winding single‑track roads with a mix of smooth tarmac and sections with potholes and loose surface, particularly around Blea Tarn. The route is not traffic free; there will be signage, marshals and traffic management personnel at key locations and runners are asked to keep to the left and follow marshal instructions at junctions.
There are aid stations on both courses and competitors are asked to carry their own water or a cup; organisers will provide jugs, Speedcups for sale, jelly babies and a vegan alternative, and a ready mixed VOOM electrolyte drink. The marathon includes two cut points on the route at approximately 13.1 miles and 21 miles to manage finish scheduling.
Race services at the event centre include registration, baggage storage, live race commentary at the finish, medical cover from advanced life support medics, portable toilets and food and drink served by the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel. Results appear live online and prizes are awarded across senior and veteran categories with free entry offered to prize winners the following year.
