Langdale Road Running Marathon and Half
The event offers two road races in the Langdale Valley in the Lake District, starting and finishing at the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel. The course takes in Great and Little Langdale and includes the climb up to Blea Tarn with gradients up to 1 in 4. The Marathon is two laps of the route with a total elevation gain of 3418 feet (1035 m). The Half Marathon is one lap and includes around 1709 feet of climbing.
The course is mostly on undulating, narrow and winding single track road with a mixture of smooth tarmac and sections with potholes or loose surfaces, especially near Blea Tarn. The route is not closed to traffic; marshals and traffic management personnel will be positioned at key points and runners are asked to keep to the left and follow marshal instructions at junctions. Dogs are not permitted on the course.
Support includes water stations and refill jugs so runners can carry their own bottles or cups; the Half has three water stations and the Marathon has seven. Jelly babies and a vegan alternative are provided at feed stations and VOOM electrolyte drink is available. Advanced Life Support medics will provide medical cover. There are two marathon cut offs at mileage markers 13.1 and 21 miles to ensure an overall finish time limit.
Race facilities at the event centre include race number collection, baggage storage, portable toilets and on site food and drink from the hotel. Prizes are awarded to top finishers in overall and veteran categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
