Event Overview
The Crotty's Lake event is a mountain running race located in the Comeragh Mountains in County Waterford. The course takes place on private land and utilizes a route that is fully marked for participants. Due to the nature of the terrain, the use of GPS devices is not permitted during the race.
Course Information
The event offers two distinct distances over mountain terrain:
- 7.2 km with a total ascent of 350 m
- 5 km short course and junior route
The loop section surrounding Crotty's Lake is characterized as technical and often slippery, regardless of weather conditions. The organizers recommend using trail running shoes with significant grip for safety on this section.
Required Equipment and Regulations
Participants are required to adhere to a Level A mandatory kit list, which includes a showerproof and windproof jacket. This jacket must be worn or carried for the entire duration of the race. Runners must have the means to carry all required gear, and random checks may be conducted.
For identification at the finish line, race numbers must be worn clearly on the chest rather than on bags or shorts. The use of headphones is prohibited during the event.
Facilities and Access
The race site includes ample car parking, and marshals are present to direct arriving vehicles. For those wishing to stay overnight, unserviced camping for tents and vans is available on-site, featuring a campers' kitchen equipped with a microwave and coffee-making facilities.
