Chimpathon 10K and 5K Run/Walk : Save the Chimps, Fort Pierce
The 11th Annual Chimpathon takes place on February 21, 2026 at Save the Chimps, a 150 acre sanctuary in Fort Pierce that cares for nearly 220 chimpanzees. The sanctuary opens to the public only a few times each year and this event is the only day the full 5K and 10K loop is available to participants.
The course is a flat, chip timed loop that passes all 12 island habitats. Runners and walkers move alongside views of chimpanzee family groups foraging and interacting within their habitats. Animals other than sanctuary residents are not permitted at the event.

The First 100 Chimp Champs program invites early fundraisers who commit to raising $500. VIP fundraisers receive complimentary registration, a limited edition magnet, an exclusive VIP t shirt, a VIP meet up and recognition. The fundraising goal for the program is $50,000 which the organizer states will fund one year of care for two chimpanzees.
All participants receive a finisher medal, a Chimpathon performance t shirt, overall and age group awards, post race food and a professionally chip timed course. Volunteers manage parking at the single sanctuary entrance and vehicles may not enter after the race has started. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
