12th Annual Chimpathon at Save the Chimps Sanctuary
Chimpathon is scheduled for February 20, 2027, at Save the Chimps in Fort Pierce, Florida. The event features in-person and virtual options that support the sanctuary’s care of nearly 220 rescued chimpanzees.
The course is a flat, chip-timed loop that starts and finishes at the sanctuary and passes the island habitats where chimpanzee families can be seen foraging and playing. Live results and split times are provided for the distance events. The in-person event is limited to 700 participants.
Fundraising is an integral part of Chimpathon. The first 100 participants who commit to raising $500 become VIP Chimp Champs and receive benefits for fundraisers, including free race registration, a limited-edition Chimpathon magnet, an exclusive VIP Chimp Champ t-shirt, a VIP meet-up and photo opportunity, and recognition as a First 100 Chimp Champ. Organizers note that 100 Chimp Champs raising $500 each would cover one year of care for two chimpanzees.
All participants receive a finisher’s medal, a Chimpathon performance t-shirt, overall and age-group awards, post-race food and refreshments, and the satisfaction of contributing directly to the sanctuary’s care. Parking is managed on site by volunteers and there is a single entrance to the sanctuary; vehicles will not be able to enter after the race has started.
