12th Annual Chimpathon Run/Walk
Chimpathon takes place on February 20, 2027 at Save the Chimps, a 150 acre sanctuary in Fort Pierce, Florida that is home to more than 200 rescued chimpanzees. The sanctuary is not normally open to the public.
Distances offered include:
- 5K
- 10K age 13 and up
- Virtual 5K
The in-person course starts and finishes at the sanctuary and is described as flat and fast. All in-person participants receive chip timing, split times for their distance, and live results. Event amenities include a finisher medal, a performance t-shirt, overall and age-group awards, post-race food and refreshments, and professionally managed chip timing. The event is limited to 700 runners and walkers, and fundraising is encouraged.
A VIP fundraising option is available: the first 100 participants who commit to raising $500 become VIP Chimp Champs. VIP perks for those fundraisers include free race registration, a limited-edition magnet, and an exclusive VIP t-shirt. Organizers note that $500 funds meals, veterinary care, and enrichment for the chimpanzees, and that 100 Chimp Champs raising $50,000 would cover one year of care for two chimpanzees.
Packet pickup is scheduled at local partner locations in Vero Beach and Port St. Lucie, with additional race-day pickup available onsite. Volunteers will manage parking at the single sanctuary entrance; vehicles will not be able to enter after the race has started. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
