Guided Trail Marathon in the Chilterns
The Chilterns Trail Marathon is a guided group run covering a distance of 42.2 km. Unlike a traditional competitive race, this event focuses on a team atmosphere where participants are led by English Athletics qualified Run Leaders. These guides manage all aspects of navigation and provide technical trail running tips throughout the journey.
The route passes through the North West of London, incorporating sections of the Ridgeway, one of Britain's oldest paths. The course features rolling hills with approximately 500 meters of total ascent. Runners travel through nature reserves and the areas of Wendover Woods, with the possibility of spotting local wildlife such as red kites and deer. The terrain consists of a mix of technical single track trails and popular local paths.
Participants are grouped by ability to ensure a consistent pace. To participate, runners must be capable of running a half marathon on flat terrain in under 2.5 hours. Steep sections of the trail are walked as part of the group strategy.
The event starts at the Iron Room in Tring, located three minutes from Tring Station, which provides rail links to London Euston. Facilities at the start include toilets and a bag drop area. Along the route, participants have access to a well stocked checkpoint offering refreshments.
