Charlotte County Habitat Turkey Trot 5K
The Charlotte County Habitat for Humanity hosts its 27th annual Turkey Trot, an event held on Thanksgiving morning. The race takes place on the campus of Florida SouthWestern State College in Punta Gorda. This long-standing community gathering serves as a fundraiser to support affordable housing solutions and homeownership programs within Charlotte County.
Participants can choose between two main events:
- 5K Run
- 5K Fun Walk
The course is situated on the college campus and features a unique "Bicycle Riding Turkey" for participants to follow. Registration includes a finisher medal and a race shirt for those who meet the specific registration deadlines. For the timed 5K Run, awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers across various age groups, ranging from 9 and under to 80 and over. There are also overall awards for Masters, Grand Masters, Senior Grand Masters, Veteran Masters, and Youth divisions.
The event follows USATF rules, using gun time to determine overall winners and chip time for age-group placements. Packet pick-up is available on the days leading up to the race at the Habitat for Humanity office and on the morning of the event at the college cafeteria. Florida SouthWestern State College maintains a policy that prohibits pets and smoking on the campus grounds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
