Charlotte County Habitat 27th Annual Turkey Trot
The Charlotte County Habitat for Humanity hosts its 27th annual 5K event on Thanksgiving morning in Punta Gorda, Florida. This community gathering takes place at the Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) Charlotte Campus, located at 26300 Airport Road. The event is a long-standing local tradition designed for families and fitness enthusiasts.
Participants can choose between two main formats:
- 5K Run
- 5K Fun Walk
The course is located on the college campus. A notable feature of the event is the presence of a turkey mascot on a bicycle for participants to follow or chase along the route. According to campus policies, pets and smoking are not permitted on the college grounds.
All registered participants receive a finisher medal. Those who register before the designated deadline in October are also provided with a race shirt. The event uses chip timing to determine results, though gun time is used for overall prize categories in accordance with USATF rules.
Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in various age brackets, ranging from 9 and under to 80 and over. Specialized overall awards are also available for Masters, Grand Masters, Senior Grand Masters, Veteran Masters, and Youth divisions. Proceeds from the event support affordable housing solutions and homeownership programs within Charlotte County. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
