Event Overview
The Charles E Davis Independence Run is a long-standing community event in its 57th year. It was elected into the Maine Running Hall of Fame Class of 2024, marking its second year as a hall of fame race. The event offers a choice between a 7-mile run and a 4-mile walk, both finishing in Eastport, Maine.
Event Details
The event is based out of Shead High School in Eastport. Bib pick-up and in-person registration on the event day occurs at the school between 7:15 AM and 8:30 AM. All participants are bused from Shead High School to their respective start lines. The run starts in Perry at the junction of Route 1 and Route 190. The walk starts on Carlow Island on Route 190. Both courses proceed along Route 190 and finish in Eastport.
Participants must stay on the right side of the road (with traffic) for safety. Police and ambulance support are provided.
Awards & Registration
Awards are given for the overall top three male and female finishers in the run, and for winners of 10-year age groups (starting below 18 up to 80+). Only the top walker receives an award.
The event operates a financial assistance policy, stating that financial insecurity will not be an impediment to participation. The race will be held regardless of rain, with a decision made on-site in the case of lightning.
