Charles E Davis Independence Run
The Charles E Davis Independence Run is in its 57th year and was elected into the Maine Running Hall of Fame in 2024. The event takes place on July 5, 2026, with race operations based at Shead High School, 89 High Street, Eastport, Maine.

- 4 miles - walk
The 7-mile run starts in Perry at the junction of Route 1 and Route 190 and finishes in Eastport, with the bulk of the course along Route 190 - County Road. The 4-mile walk begins on Carlow Island on Route 190 and follows the same route into Eastport. Participants are transported by bus to their respective start locations. Bib pick-up is available at Shead High School on race day.
Registration fees vary by period: Early Bird Run $25 and Walk $20; Regular Run $30 and Walk $20; Day-of Run $35 and Walk $20. Organizers state that financial assistance is available for registrants who cannot meet the fee requirements. Small and significant donations help support the event; donations of $100 or more may receive a sponsorship designation.
Age groups are in ten-year increments starting with below 18, then 19-29 through 70-79, and 80+. Awards are given to the overall top three male and female finishers and to age-group winners; only the top walker receives an award. Runners under 18 require parental permission.
A $300 award is available to any male or female runner who breaks the existing 7-mile course records. The fastest recorded 7-mile times are male 36:27 (1982) and female 44:41 (1982). Record breakers must remain for the award ceremony to receive the prize. Volunteers are welcome to support the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
