Event Overview

The Boyden Lake Half-Marathon is an annual event held in Perry, Maine, organized by the Bold Coast Runners and Pottle Tree Farm. The course features a scenic loop that encircles Boyden Lake, a freshwater body in the Downeast region. Participants travel along quiet roads surrounded by forests, rolling hills, and open fields. The route offers opportunities to observe local wildlife, including eagles, herons, and loons.

Both the start and finish lines are located at the Pottle Tree Farm. The event serves as a fundraiser for organizations that support disabled and post-9/11 veterans, including the Achilles Freedom Team, House in the Woods, and the Travis Mills Foundation. Each year, the race is dedicated to honoring a specific local veteran.

Distance Options

Participants can choose from several event formats:

  • Half-Marathon: A 13.1 mile loop around the lake with a 3.5-hour course time limit.
  • Half-Marathon Relay: A 13.1 mile distance completed by teams of two or three people.
  • Walk: Non-competitive distances of 2.5 miles or 5 miles with turnaround points at aid stations.
  • Ruck: A 13.1 mile or 5 mile distance where participants must carry a pack weighing at least 35 pounds.
  • Para Division: A division following World Para Athletics guidelines for athletes with disabilities.

Logistics

There are four aid stations positioned along the course providing water and electrolyte drinks. Registration includes a T-shirt and a finisher item for all events. Following the conclusion of the races, a pot-luck lunch is held at the Pottle Tree Farm Barn. Due to limited parking, carpooling is recommended for all attendees.
