Cedar Lake Triathlon Series #5
This is the fifth of a six-race summer series held every other Thursday evening at Cedar Lake in Chester, CT. The event offers two race formats and includes individual and relay entries.
- Individual and Relay Sprint: approximately 500 yard swim, 10 mile bike, 5 km run.
- Super Sprint: approximately 200 yard swim, 5 mile bike, 1.5 to 1.7 mile run.
The swim is an out-and-back open water lake swim with the buoy kept to the left. Wetsuits are encouraged when the water temperature is below 80 degrees and strongly encouraged for at least the first two races. Aqua jogging is not permitted.
Transitions are inside the fenced perimeter of the lake with about ten bikes per rack. The run is a roughly 3.1 mile out-and-back along the lake that approaches Cockaponset State Forest and turns around at the water station; the course is described as flat and smooth. Riders and runners should slow as they approach Route 148 on the return to transition.
Race rules include required helmets on the bike, staying right unless passing, no drafting, keeping four bike lengths from the rider ahead, no earbuds or personal audio devices, no crossing yellow lines, and staying inside the cones. Animals are prohibited in the park.
Preregistration is required; online registration closes on race day and there is no onsite registration. In inclement weather the organizers may convert the race to a duathlon, a 5K, or cancel the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
