Cedar Lake Triathlon Series #5
The event is the fifth race in a six race summer series held every other Thursday night at Cedar Lake in Chester, CT. The program offers two race formats: an individual and relay sprint triathlon and a super sprint triathlon.
- Individual and relay sprint: about 500 yard swim, 10 mile bike, 5 km run
- Super sprint: about 200 yard swim, 5 mile bike, about 1.5 mile run
The swim is an out and back open water lake swim with buoys kept to the swimmer's left. Transitions are inside a fenced area at the lake with roughly ten bikes per rack. The run is an out and back alongside the lake that approaches Cockaponset State Forest and turns around at the water station; organizers describe the run as flat and smooth. Specific course routing and a bike course map are provided by the organizers.
Race rules include mandatory helmets on the bike, staying right unless passing, no drafting, a minimum separation between cyclists, no earbuds or phones while racing, no crossing yellow lines, and staying inside the cones. Animals are not permitted in the park.
Preregistration is required; online registration closes on race day and there is no onsite registration. Wetsuits are encouraged when water temperature is below 80 degrees and are strongly encouraged for the early races. Aqua jogging is not permitted. In inclement weather the organizers may convert the event to a duathlon, a 5K, or cancel the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
