Cedar Lake Triathlon Series #5
The fifth race in a six-event summer series held every other Thursday at Cedar Lake in Chester, CT. The event offers both individual and relay formats and a shorter super sprint option. Preregistration is required; online registration closes at 5:00 p.m. on race day and there is no onsite registration. Race day check-in opens at 5:00 p.m. and all registered racers must be checked in by 5:45 p.m.
Race formats and approximate distances:
- Sprint Triathlon (individual and relay): ~500 yd swim, 10 mile bike, 5 km run
- Super Sprint Triathlon: ~200 yd swim, 5 mile bike, 1 to 1.5 mile run
Course and logistics: the swim is an out-and-back lake swim with buoys kept to the swimmer's left. Transitions are inside fenced perimeters with room for about ten bikes per rack. The 3.1 mile run follows the lakeside and approaches Cockaponset State Forest; runners stay on the lakeside for the out-and-back. Riders and runners are advised to slow approaching Route 148 on the return to transition.
Equipment, age and safety notes: wetsuits are encouraged when water temperature is below 80 degrees and strongly encouraged for the early races. Aqua jogging is not permitted. Super Sprint racers must be at least 13 years old; a parent or guardian may race for free while accompanying a child for the entire race. Course rules include helmet use, staying right unless passing, no drafting, a required gap between cyclists, no earbuds, and staying inside cones. No animals are allowed in the park.
Inclement weather policy: organizers may change the race to a duathlon, a 5K, or cancel the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
