The available events are:
- 10K Road Race: Open to participants aged 10 to 99.
- 5K Power Walk: Open to participants aged 50 to 99.
Online registration is encouraged. Fees increase on specific dates:
- 10K fees are $25 until May 27, $30 from May 28 to June 4, and $35 on race day.
- 5K Power Walk fees are $10 until May 27, $15 from May 28 to June 4, and $20 on race day. A $5 online discount is applied automatically for ages 10-19 and 65-99.
Course and Logistics
Both events are out-and-back courses that start and finish on Langdon Street, which is closed to traffic. The route passes the Vermont State House and uses the Montpelier Bike Path. The 10K course is described as relatively flat and fast, roughly half paved and half dirt road, with a turnaround off Junction Road. The 5K course has a turnaround at the 1.55-mile mark. The race organizers note that headphones and strollers are not permitted due to insurance requirements.
Bib pickup and race-day registration are available on Langdon Street from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. On-street parking is available but participants are advised to allow extra time.
Championships and Awards
The 10K race serves as the Vermont Senior Games Association (VSGA) state championship for ages 50 and up and is a qualifier for the 2027 National Senior Games. Runners aged 50+ are automatically eligible for VSGA medals awarded to the top three finishers in five-year age groups. The event also awards Onion River Outdoors gift certificates to the first finishers in each age group for the 10K.
The 5K Power Walk is the 2026 VSGA state championship event for ages 50 and up, with medals awarded immediately after the finish.
The race is also the Vermont State Banner Race for the New England 65+ Runners Club. A post-race gathering for participants aged 64 and up includes free pizza at Positive Pie on State Street. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
