Catamount Ultra
The Catamount Ultra is a trail race held at the Trapp Family Lodge trail system near Stowe, VT. The event offers two distances:
- 50K
- 25K
The 25k course is primarily wide, hard packed dirt trail that passes highland pastures and hardwood forest with maple sugar tap lines. The course circumnavigates the Trapp Family Lodge multi use trail system at the foot of Mount Mansfield. The 50k consists of two laps of the 25k loop. Each 25k loop contains approximately 2,500 feet of elevation gain and 2,500 feet of elevation loss, for a total near 5,000 feet of gain and loss on the 50k.
The race layout includes three aid stations located at about miles 4.6, 9.4, and at the start/finish area. Twenty five kilometer runners will encounter two on course aid stations. The event is cup free; runners should carry personal hydration and nutrition. A designated area at the start/finish is provided for 50k drop bags. Volunteer first aid caregivers will be available at the start/finish; aid station medical coverage is not guaranteed.
Other details: participant capacity is 600; all participants must purchase a day use trail pass from the Outdoor Center; packet pickup is available at the Von Trapp Brewery the day before the race. The refund policy permits a refund less a $25 service fee if requested by May 15. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
