Montpelier Mile
The Montpelier Mile is a one mile road race through historic downtown Montpelier held on July 3 as part of the citys Independence Day parade. The course runs along State Street in front of M&T Bank and the Vermont History Museum, continues to the Main Street rotary, and returns through downtown in front of thousands of spectators.
Pre registration through July 1st charges adults and adults with strollers $20, juniors (14-17) $15, youth (10-13) $10, and kids 9 and under $5. Day of registration charges adults and adults with strollers $25, juniors $20, youth $10, and kids 9 and under $5. Day of registration and bib pickup take place 3:30 to 5:30 pm at the Onion River Outdoors tent in front of M&T Bank on State Street.
Prizes include a Dash for Cash of $50, cash awards for the top three adult finishers ($100 first, $75 second, $50 third), and ORO gift cards for the top three in junior, youth, and kids categories. A $50 prize is offered for breaking the course record. Listed course record times include female 5:00 (2007), male 4:18.7 (2022), and non binary 5:37.5 (2024).
All ages are welcome and children are specifically invited to participate. The race coincides with the parade and subsequent fireworks. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
