Montpelier Mile
The Montpelier Mile is a one-mile road race held on July 3rd in downtown Montpelier as part of the city’s Independence Day celebrations. The course passes through historic downtown streets and is staged in front of a large spectator crowd; the event is connected with the parade and subsequent fireworks.
The route begins on State Street in front of M&T Bank and the Vermont History Museum, runs through downtown to the Main Street rotary, and returns to the starting area. A Dash for Cash awards $50 to the first runners who reach the corner of Main and State.
The event welcomes participants of all ages and encourages children to take part. Registration options and fees are published for pre-registration through July 1 and for day-of registration. Pre-registration fees are $20 for adults and adults with stroller, $15 for juniors (14-17), $10 for youth (10-13), and $5 for kids (9 and under). Day-of registration fees are $25 for adults and adults with stroller, $20 for juniors (14-17), $10 for youth (10-13), and $5 for kids (9 and under). Day-of registration and bib pickup occur at the Onion River Outdoors tent in front of M&T Bank at 112 State Street.
Prizes include a $50 Dash for Cash, cash awards for the top three adult finishers ($100, $75, $50), and ORO gift cards for top three finishers in junior, youth, and kids divisions. A $50 bonus is available for breaking the course record. Current course record times are approximately 4:18.7 (men), 5:00 (women), and 5:37.5 (non-binary).
