Bruce's Crown Race
Bruce's Crown Race is a 46 mile team event held in Galloway, starting and finishing at Caldons near Glentrool. The route crosses three hill ranges within Galloway : Minnigaff Hills, Rhinns of Kells and the Awful Hand : with more than 4000 metres of cumulative ascent. The course has very few paths and testing underfoot conditions, so good navigation skills and teamwork are required.
Teams of 2 to 4 runners may enter. Team members must stay together and check into each checkpoint as a complete team. Teams of 4 may retire one or two runners at designated checkpoints so the remaining runners can continue as a Team of 2 or 3; if a runner retires from a Team of 2 the remaining runner cannot continue alone. Prizes are awarded to Teams of 4 and Teams of 2; a Team of 3 can be eligible for the Team of 2 prize category.
There are three manned checkpoints on the route offering hot food, soup and drinks, and Mountain Rescue Team volunteers are stationed on the three ranges for safety. The event includes two on-route cutoffs and an overall 24 hour limit to complete the course. Camping at the event is included in the entry fee. Entries are allocated via a pre-selection list and entry fees are £75 per person. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
