Event overview

Bruce's Crown Race is a team mountain event taking place from 11 to 12 April 2026. The route starts and finishes at Caldons, near Glentrool in Galloway. The course is 46 miles long and includes over 4000 metres of ascent across three hill ranges in Galloway: Minnigaff Hills, Rhinns of Kells and the Awful Hand. There are three manned checkpoints offering hot food and drinks, and mountain rescue teams will be stationed on the ranges for safety. There are two on-route cutoffs and an overall 24-hour time limit to complete the event.

Entries, teams and practical details

Entries are allocated using a pre-selection list system. The minimum age is 18. The entry fee is £75 per person (for example £150 for a team of 2 and £300 for a team of 4). Camping is included in the fee if notified at registration. Teams may be composed of 2 to 4 members; team members must stay together and check into each checkpoint as a complete team. Teams of 4 may have 1 or 2 runners retire at designated checkpoints so the remainder can continue as a team of 2 or 3. A lone remaining runner cannot continue if their teammate retires. Prizes are awarded for Teams of 4 and Teams of 2; teams of 3 are eligible for the Team of 2 prize category. Proceeds after expenses will be donated to the local mountain rescue organisation.
