Bruce's Crown Race
The Bruce's Crown Race is a long-distance mountain event taking place in the Galloway hills. The route starts and finishes at Caldons, located near Glentrool and Newton Stewart. Participants traverse three distinct hill ranges: the Minnigaff Hills, Rhinns of Kells, and the Awful Hand.
The course covers a total distance of 46 miles and includes over 4000 metres of total ascent. The terrain consists of few established paths and requires navigation skills due to the underfoot conditions. Participants must complete the event within an overall 24-hour time limit, and two intermediate cut-off points are enforced along the route.
The event is open to:
- Solo runners
- Teams of 2 participants
- Teams of 3 participants
- Teams of 4 participants
For those entering in teams, members are required to stay together throughout the duration of the event and check into all manned stations as a complete group. The course features three manned checkpoints providing hot soup, food, and drinks. Safety support is provided by the Galloway Mountain Rescue Team across the mountain ranges.
Camping is included in the entry fee and is available for participants who request it during registration. All proceeds from the event, following expenditure, are donated to the Galloway Mountain Rescue Team to support the development of their new base.
