Trail Ultramarathon Across the Southern Upland Way
The Ultra Scotland 100 is a long-distance trail running event covering a distance of 104 miles with a total elevation gain of 4611m. The route follows the historic Southern Upland Way, one of Scotland's Great Trails. The course starts at St John's Town of Dalry and concludes at the Focus Community Centre in Galashiels.
Participants navigate a variety of terrains, including ascents of Benbrake, Gateshaw Rig, Lowther Hill (701m), and Minch Moor. The trail also passes through forests and valleys, featuring landmarks such as the Daer Reservoir, Three Brethren, and St Mary's Loch. The event is recognized with a UTMB performance index and ITRA mountain points.
The race has a field limit of 250 places and a total cut-off time of 38 hours. Entrants must meet specific qualifying criteria, including being at least 20 years old and having previously completed both a marathon and an organized ultramarathon of at least 50 miles.
Support and facilities provided include:
- 104 miles course with 10 checkpoints offering refreshments and medical support.
- Live online GPS tracking for all participants.
- Mandatory kit requirements including waterproof clothing, maps, and emergency supplies.
- Optional dropbag services at the finish and specific mid-way checkpoints.
- Finishers receive a unique buckle based on their finishing position.
