Run for Heroes in Smithtown
The Brotherhood for the Fallen event takes place at the Suffolk County Police Department - 4th Precinct. This community gathering supports a non-profit organization that honors law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty and provides assistance to their families. The event proceeds contribute to this mission, which involves members attending services across the nation to present support to the relatives of fallen heroes.
Participants can choose from several event distances:
- 10K Run
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1/2 Mile Fun Run
The 5K course is characterized as relatively flat, though it includes a 50-meter descent and ascent after the first mile. The 10K route utilizes the 5K path with an additional loop that features hilly terrain between miles three and four. The 1/2 mile Fun Run is a non-competitive, free event designed for all participants to enjoy.
All finishers in the 5K and 10K categories receive a medal. Amenities include post-race refreshments, music from a DJ, and an awards ceremony. A unique feature of the course is the display of individual lawn signs featuring the names of fallen Suffolk County Police Officers leading toward the finish line. Registration includes a T-shirt for those who sign up by the June 20 deadline, and those registered three weeks in advance receive personalized bibs.
