Backyard Nonsense

Backyard Nonsense is scheduled for September 26, 2026 at Richard Bong State Recreation Area near Vern Wolf Lake in Brighton, Wisconsin. The event takes place on marked trail loops through rolling hills and scenic areas within the park. The venue address is 26313 Burlington Rd, Kansasville, WI 53139.

Race options include:

  • 24 hour Ultra
  • Backyard 24 (4.1 mile loop every hour)
  • 12 hour
  • 6 hour
  • 3 hour

The Backyard 24 follows a classic backyard format of running a 4.1 mile loop each hour, while the 24 hour Ultra allows continuous running for as many miles as an entrant can complete in the period. Group campgrounds are reserved so crews and family can attend and support participants at a shared home base.

All vehicles on site need a 2026 Wisconsin State Park pass or a day pass purchased at the park entrance. The organizer, CUSS Running (Curious Ultrarunner's Secret Society), offers a limited number of free entries for BIPOC and LGBTQ athletes; these entries are not publicly advertised and are issued as funding allows. The event accepts an entrant's declared gender for registration and provides options to record non binary identities in event records.

This event was postponed from June 6, 2026 and registration is listed as coming soon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
