Backyard Nonsense
Backyard Nonsense is a timed trail running event set for September 26, 2026 in Brighton, WI at Richard Bong State Recreation Area near Vern Wolf Lake. The event was postponed from June 6, 2026 and is organized by Cussing Runner.
The event offers multiple timed race options:
- 24 hour
- 12 hour
- 6 hour
- 3 hour
There are two formats for the 24 hour distance: a backyard style where runners complete a 4.1 mile loop each hour on the hour, and a continuous 24 hour ultra where athletes run without hourly resets to accumulate miles. Group campgrounds are reserved so racers may have support crews and family onsite; a central home base will serve as a staging and rest area between loops.
Racers and supporters who drive to the park must have a 2026 Wisconsin State Park pass for their vehicle or purchase a day pass at the park entrance. The organizer notes a small program of free entries reserved for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ athletes subject to available funding. Organizers accept each entrant’s declared gender without requiring additional supporting evidence and provide a way to record non-binary pronouns for registration records.
