Fostering Hope 5K
The Fostering Hope 5K is an annual community event held at White Hall Park in Richmond, Kentucky. The race takes place on a scenic loop course consisting of paved trail and roadway surfaces. This event supports the Orphan Care Alliance (OCA), a ministry that provides life coaching, family support, and preservation services for vulnerable children and families within the foster and adoptive communities across Kentucky and southern Indiana.
Participants can choose from several event categories:
- 3.1 Miles: A manually timed race for runners and walkers.
- 0.25 Miles: A fun, untimed dash for children aged 9 and under.
- 0.25 Miles: A ride-on toy race for children aged 3-7 using 6- or 12-volt toys.
- 3.1 Miles: A virtual option for those participating remotely.
The 3.1 Miles run features awards for the top three male and female finishers overall. Additionally, medals are awarded to the top two male and female finishers in various age brackets ranging from 10 and under to 80 and over. Registrants for the 5K receive a commemorative T-shirt if registered by the specified deadline.
The event grounds at White Hall Park accommodate strollers and dogs on fixed-length leashes. Participants have the option to form teams, with recognition provided for the largest group. On-site amenities include music, food, and free race photography. Children participating in the dash receive participation medals, while those in the toy race participate for fun without specific awards.
