Day of the Dead Half Marathon - Houston
The Day of the Dead Half Marathon - Houston takes place at the Kingdom Builders Center and surrounding park areas. The event features a variety of distances and activities centered around the Dia de los Muertos tradition. Participants can choose from several race options:
- Kids Dash (approx. 20 yards)
- 1 Mile Run
- 5k Run (3.1 miles)
- Quarter Marathon (6.55 miles)
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- Virtual Run
The courses weave through local landscapes, including lakes and wooded areas. While the organizers aim for paved trails, runners may encounter mixed surfaces such as crushed granite or dirt paths. All participants in the 5k, Quarter Marathon, and Half Marathon receive chip timing. Aid stations are situated along the route to provide water and assistance.
Before the races begin, a costume contest is held where judges evaluate participants based on creativity and authenticity. The post-race celebration at the rally tent includes live music, Mexican treats, and refreshments. A DJ announces finishers as they cross the line.
