Day of the Dead Half Marathon - Texas Parks Edition, Galveston
The event is centered at Stewart Beach, 401 Seawall Blvd, Galveston, TX, and offers multiple race formats including an in-person half marathon and several shorter distances plus a virtual option. The course runs through parks and green belts and may include paved trails, crushed granite, and dirt paths.
Aid stations are placed on the course to provide water and assistance. Chip timing is used for the 5K, quarter marathon, half marathon, and the Volunteer then Run option; the Kids Dash and 1 Mile events are not chip timed. Packet pickup is offered 1.5 hours before the race start. Shirt availability is guaranteed only up to 10 days before the event.
A pre-race costume contest is judged on creativity, authenticity, and overall impact; the winner receives a Best Costume Award and a prize package. A post-race rally tent hosts live awards, a DJ, and Mexican treats and refreshments. Standard awards for the 5K, quarter marathon, and half marathon include overall trophies, masters recognition, and age-group pins from youth categories through 70 plus.
Volunteer roles include course monitors and aid station helpers; volunteers arrive 1.5 hours before the start and may receive a race shirt, souvenir medal subject to availability, VIP access, and a choice of a future race entry or a prepaid digital gift card.
