Day of the Dead Half Marathon - Galveston
The Day of the Dead Half Marathon takes place on 10/10/2026 at Stewart Beach on Galveston Island. The event features a paved course that begins near the shoreline and continues through nearby streets, with mixed surfaces possible on some sections. Aid stations are placed along the route to provide water and basic assistance.
Races offered include a chip timed half marathon and several shorter distances, plus a virtual option. Timing and awards differ by distance: the 5K, Quarter Marathon, and Half Marathon are chip timed and feature overall trophies, masters recognition pins, and age group award pins; the 1 Mile and Kids Dash are not chip timed. A Volunteer then Run option provides a chip timed bib, a tee shirt, and a finisher medal for participants who volunteer before racing.
A costume contest is held before the race; a panel of judges evaluates costumes and awards a Best Costume Award and prize package. Packet pickup is available beginning 1.5 hours before the event and shirts are guaranteed only if registered at least 10 days before the race. A post race rally includes music, refreshments, live awards announcements, and event photography.
Volunteers may also sign up under a separate volunteer option to staff aid stations or course monitoring; course volunteers receive event shirt, souvenir medal subject to availability, VIP access, and a choice of a free future race entry or a $20 prepaid digital gift card.
