About the race
The Beer City Relay is a community road relay and individual race hosted at New Belgium Brewing in Asheville, North Carolina. The course is a 5k out-and-back on the West River Arts District Greenway with a single water stop at the turnaround near French Broad River Park. The starting line and relay exchange are at New Belgium Brewing, 21 Craven Street, Asheville.
Event formats:
- 5k loop
- 10k option (single or two-person team)
- 20k relay (teams of four)
Teams of four each run the 5k course once. Teams of two each run the 5k twice. Single runners may complete the loop once or twice for a 5k or 10k finish. Strollers are allowed; participants with strollers should start toward the back and stay to the right on the greenway. Dogs and other animals are not permitted on the course for safety and insurance reasons; approved service animals require prior approval and documentation. One team member may pick up packet materials for the whole team. Packet pickup options include Friday at Mountain Running Company and morning pickup at New Belgium Brewing.
Entry fees include a race shirt, finisher medal, a beer or nonalcoholic option for participants 21 and over, chip timing, and a donation to Consider Haiti. Every finisher receives a medal. Prizes include gift certificates for the fastest teams and the fastest male and female 5k and 10k finishers. The event has a no refund policy; transfers and virtual options are allowed up to five days before the race. Street parking and a dirt lot at the Craven Street Bridge are available; New Belgium lots are not available for event parking. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
