About the race
Battle by the Brook is the ninth annual adventure race hosted at YMCA Camp Shady Brook in Deckers, Colorado on September 19, 2026. The event raises money to send children to camp and offers team-based adventure racing across natural terrain.
Distances:
- 20 Miles - Competitive Race, teams of 1 to 4 persons
- 6 Miles - Family Race, teams of 2 to 6 with at least one adult
The Competitive Race combines mountain biking, orienteering, cross country running, climbing, rappelling, target sports and watercraft challenges. The race supplies watercraft. It is USARA sanctioned and open to all ages. Teams may be entered into the Rocky Mountain Adventure Series Championship. Each team member in this division must have a geared mountain bike and be experienced riding on trails. Teams are timed, results include overall finish time, and awards are given to the top team in each division.
The Family Race uses a shorter course and is intended for families and recreational participants. Teams must include at least one parent or guardian, with a minimum of two and a maximum of six members. Bikes are optional in the family division; participants may run, walk or hike instead. Pre-registered teams are guaranteed a race tee. This division is timed and offers awards to top teams across bike and no-bike categories.
