Greenland Open Space Pack Burro Race
The Greenland Open Space Pack Burro Race is the fourth annual event presented by Double Rainbow Ranch at Greenland Open Space Trail in Larkspur, Colorado. The event address is 1532 E. Noe Road, Larkspur, Colorado 80118. The event offers two trail distances and limits the field to a maximum of 75 participants.
Registration opens 5/22/2026 and closes 9/25/2026. The registration fee is $60 and entry fees must accompany the application; fees are not refundable. No race day registration will be available. Runners must be 14 years or older on race day.
Distances
- 8 Mile: pack saddles required with pick, pan and shovel to qualify for top prizes
- 3 Mile: pack saddles optional
The race follows specific burro and team rules. Teams are one person plus one burro and must remain together for the entire event. A runner may register a burro by creating a password protected donkey team; runners cannot add a burro without the password. A registered veterinarian or Race Director may disqualify an animal that is unsound, sick, injured, doped, or mistreated. No intact jacks are permitted. Ropes must be held in the runner's hands and not exceed 15 feet measured from end of rope to tip of buckle. The lead rope must attach to the halter tie ring or tie loop only.
Safety and welfare rules ban needles, electric prods, narcotics, clubs, whips, trekking poles, and firearms. Teams must follow the marked course and return if separated. Health certificates and coggins are required for out of state donkeys. Camping is available on a very limited basis and must be reserved with the Race Director. All participants will receive a participation gift. The course remains open to the public with hikers, bikers, dog walkers, and equestrians present.
