Bass Lake Yosemite Triathlon
The Bass Lake Yosemite Triathlon is an annual multi-sport event held in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains near Yosemite National Park. This competition carries a long history in the sport, as the location hosted the national championships in the early 1980s. The event features multiple race formats staged in and around Bass Lake, which is situated just minutes from the gates of Yosemite.
Participants can choose from several distance options and disciplines:
- Olympic Triathlon: 1500m swim, 40k bike, and 10k run.
- Sprint Triathlon: 800m swim, 20k bike, and 5k run.
- Duathlon: 5k run, 20k bike, and 5k run.
- AquaBike: Available in both Olympic and Sprint distances, consisting of the swim and bike segments only.
The transition area is located at The Pines Resort, positioned directly on the lake. The surrounding area in Madera County and the neighboring community of Oakhurst offer various lodging options, including national forest campgrounds, resorts, and vacation rentals. Due to the proximity to Yosemite National Park, the location provides access to landmarks such as Glacier Point, Yosemite Valley, and Half Dome.
The race environment includes a swim in Bass Lake followed by cycling and running courses through the local foothills. Following the conclusion of the races, the event holds a post-race party for participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
