Event Overview
The Azalea Classic takes place in University Park, Maryland, scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026. This community event is organized by the University Park Elementary School (UPES) Parent Teacher Association. All proceeds from the races are used to benefit various programs at the school.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- Azalea Classic 5K (USATF-sanctioned)
- 1-Mile Challenge Run
- Val Creighton 1K Family Fun Run
The event is held at the University Park Elementary School location. The organizers permit both dogs and strollers on the course. Races proceed in various weather conditions, including rain.
Participation and Logistics
Registration is open with various pricing tiers based on the date of entry. A group discount is available for four or more people registering together, and individuals entering multiple events also receive a price reduction.
Packet pick-up is scheduled for the Friday before the race and on the morning of the event. T-shirts are provided to participants on a first-come, first-served basis during these sessions. Due to the race route, street closures move into effect on the morning of the event. While limited parking is available on nearby streets such as Underwood Street and Tuckerman Street, the use of public transportation, walking, or cycling is encouraged.
