Maryland Turkey Trot 5k & 10k
The Maryland Turkey Trot is a fall running event held on November 22 at Carderock Recreation Area on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal towpath in Potomac, Maryland. The event offers two measured distances:
- 10 km
- 5 km
Both routes are out-and-back on a light gravel dirt trail with minimal elevation gain. The course is described as flat and fast. Walkers are welcome. A virtual race option is available for those who cannot attend in person.
Points earned at this event count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k and Back of the Pack Series, and also toward the Fall Series. The Back of the Pack series groups runners by pace so participants with similar average times can compete for series points.
Participants receive a finisher’s medal, a technical DriFit event shirt (shirts guaranteed for registrations made before November 11), and chip timing. Water stations are provided—four stations on the 10k at approximately mile markers 1.55, 2.7, 3.5 and 4.65, and one station on the 5k at about mile 1.55; Gatorade will be available at some stations. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to top finishers in specified age categories; overall top three are not eligible for age group awards.
Packet pickup occurs at the event. There is no on-site race registration. Parking is available within the recreation area across four parking lots; the event location is marked at GPS 38.972563, -77.198738. Live results are posted online after the race and final series points are published the following Monday. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
