About the race
The Maryland Turkey Trot on November 22, 2026 is a chip-timed running event at Carderock Recreation Area on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Towpath in Potomac, MD. The event offers these distances:
- 5 km
- 10 km
Both routes are out-and-back once on a light gravel dirt trail with minimal elevation gain. The course is described as flat and fast. Walkers are welcome. A virtual race option is available for participants who cannot attend in person.
Registered runners receive a finisher's medal, a technical DriFit event shirt, and chip timing. T-shirts are guaranteed for runners registered before November 11; additional shirts are first come first served. Water stations will be placed along the courses: four stations on the 10 km at approximately miles 1.55, 2.7, 3.5 and 4.65, and one station on the 5 km at approximately mile 1.55. Gatorade will be available at some stations. Restrooms are located by the main parking lot. Packet pickup is available at the event and there will be no on-site race registration.
Points from this event count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k and Back of the Pack Series and toward the Fall Series. Live results are posted on Athlinks with a race QR code for immediate viewing; final results with series points are posted the Monday following the race.
Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to the first and second place in standard age categories. Banditing is not allowed. Parking is available in four lots within the recreation area; the event location is near the Naval Warfare Surface Center and marked by GPS coordinates 38.972563, -77.198738.
