Event Overview
Austin's Backyard Marathon & Memorial Day Remembrance Run is an endurance running event held in Marble Falls, Texas, in the Texas Hill Country. The event features a multi-race format: the Austin's Backyard Ultra, the Memorial Day Remembrance Marathon, and the Memorial Day Remembrance Half-Marathon.
Location and Course
The event takes place near Lago Vista, approximately 30 miles northwest of Austin. The course winds around a peninsula on Lake Travis, offering views of the water and the surrounding area. The terrain is a mix of 50% trail and 50% paved surfaces.
Backyard Ultra Format
This is an officially sanctioned Backyard Ultra, a "last person standing" challenge. The format involves a continuous series of 4.167-mile loops. A new loop starts at the top of each hour, and participants must complete each loop within 60 minutes to continue. The last person to complete a loop is the overall winner.
Event Distances and Recognition
Participants can set personal goals outside of the last-person-standing competition. Recognition is awarded for completing a specific number of loops:
- 1 loop (4+ miles): a "woodallion" finisher award.
- 4 loops: Half-marathon medal (13.1 miles).
- 7 loops: Marathon medal (26.2 miles).
- 8+ loops: Ultra medal (33+ miles).
A special "Gladiator Award" is reserved for any athlete who completes 100 miles in under 24 hours on the official course.

The event offers an event T-shirt and aid station support. A designated tent and crew area is available near campsites 20-28, with setup allowed from 6:00 AM on the event day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
