Multi-Terrain Racing in Helston

An Res Hellys is a 10 mile multi-terrain running event that starts and finishes in Helston. The course is a significant fixture in the regional athletics calendar, serving as a race in the Cornwall Grand Prix Road Racing Series. The route guides participants through the Penrose Estate, a National Trust property known for its scenic landscapes.

The event utilizes chip timing for all participants. While chips are worn on the ankle to record data, final race placings are determined using gun-to-chip time. Participants must be at least 17 years old on the day of the event to compete. Awards are presented in several categories, including:

  • 10 mile multi-terrain run

Additional categories include the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as age-group awards for veterans ranging from age 35 to 75 and over. Team prizes are also awarded to the top three male and female teams, with six runners required to count for a team score.

The race headquarters is located at the Old Cattle Market in Helston. Facilities at the site include toilets and access to the Lakeside Café for food and drink. There are no dedicated changing rooms or showers available at the venue. For those arriving by car, free parking is available at the Fairground Car Park approximately 400 meters from headquarters, with additional limited spaces at Castle Green and Tyacke Road. Due to safety regulations within the Cornwall Grand Prix series, the use of personal audio devices, MP3 players, and dogs is not permitted during the race.
