The 10 in 10 and Challenge5
The 10 in 10 and Challenge5 is a fundraising walking challenge in the English Lake District near Keswick. It raises money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The main route asks participants to complete ten peaks within ten hours; an alternative Challenge5 covers five peaks over a shorter route.
The ten peak route includes Maiden Moor, High Spy, Dale Head, Robinson, High Snockrigg, Whiteless Pike, Wandope, Crag Hill, Sail and Causey Pike. Participants register at the Swinside Inn and receive a race number and a waterproof map.
The Challenge5 route starts and finishes at the Swinside Inn and is approximately eight miles long. It takes in five peaks: Causey Pike (637m), Scar Crags (672m), Outerside (568m), Stile End (447m) and Barrow (455m). The organisers note the terrain and the potential for changeable weather.
Participants are typically sponsored to raise funds for MS research and are encouraged to aim for a minimum fundraising target of £250. The event has raised over £1,000,000 for MS research to date. Entry fees were published for both events; adult 10 in 10 entries include a Berghaus 10in10 t shirt and children’s entries include a medal and certificate.
