Lakeland Country Fair Fell Races
The Lakeland Country Fair hosts a programme of fell races for junior and senior categories run under FRA rules. Race entry is free; admission to the Country Fair is required. Full kit is compulsory according to FRA requirements, and GPS devices are not permitted as a navigational aid in the senior race. Safety pins are listed among required items. Ages are determined as on 31 December in accordance with FRA rules.
Runners leave the show ground, ascend to the summit of Coniston Old Man and return by a similar route. Competitors may take their own line except for a marked section near the start and finish.
Distances and ascent:
- Under 11: 1400 m, 57 m ascent, minimum age 7
- Under 13 / Under 15: 2200 m, 77 m ascent
- Under 17 / Under 19: 3600 m, 133 m ascent
- Senior: 8.5 km, 703 m ascent, minimum age 18
Prizes are awarded across age groups. Junior first, second and third in each category receive trophies. Senior overall winners receive a voucher, a bottle and a trophy, with further trophies and bottles for other top finishers and specified age categories.
