About the race
The Friends of the Library Montgomery County event on October 18, 2026 takes place at Wheaton Regional Park in Silver Spring, Maryland. The event features multiple distances including a 1-mile fun run, a 5 km and a 10 km; the 5 km is one loop and the 10 km is two loops of the same route. A virtual run option is available for participants who cannot attend in person.
The route is paved for the majority of the distance, with rolling hills and some short sections of trail and gravel. The 10 km course includes five water stations at approximately mile markers 1.3, 2.0, 3.1, 4.4, and 5.1; the 5 km course includes two water stations at approximately mile markers 1.3 and 2.0. Gatorade will be available at some stations. The event is chip timed; finishers receive a medal and a technical event shirt. T shirts are guaranteed for runners registered before October 7.
Results will be posted live and a QR code will be available at the event for immediate access; final results with series points are posted the Monday following the race. Points from this event count toward the Year-Long 5K, 10K and Back of the Pack series and toward the Fall Series. Awards include top three men and women overall and age group prizes by standard age brackets. Packet pickup and race day registration are available at the venue.
