Abebe Bikila Day International Peace Marathon & Half : Washington DC
The event offers two certified, Boston qualifying distances on a totally flat gravel trail along the C&O Canal Towpath, starting and finishing at Fletcher's Cove in Washington DC. The course is USATF certified (DC21001RT) and follows out and back routes.
- 26.2 miles full marathon, out and back twice
- 13.1 miles half marathon, out and back to Towpath mile 9.65
Aid stations are located at Fletcher's Cove, Lock 6, Lock 7, and Lock 10 and provide bottled water, Gatorade, and CarbBoom while supplies last. The organizers allow runners to leave personal bottles at aid stations if they are delivered there before the runner arrives. On-site parking at Fletcher's Cove is roughly 325 spaces with indoor toilets and additional portable toilets at the upper lot.
The event is limited to the first 350 entrants and is open to runners who can finish within six hours. All finishers receive specially cast medals and a post-race picnic. The full marathon awards cash prizes to the top three men and top three women with additional awards for winners in 10 year age groups.
