Event Overview
The Emancipation Day 5K is the 14th annual edition of this event, held in historic Laurel, Maryland. The primary beneficiary is the University of Maryland's Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology-Midtown. The center serves children and adults with diabetes in the Baltimore region, seeing over 3,000 patients annually.
Distances and Format
The event offers three participation formats:
- A 5K Run or Walk.
- A 1 Mile Fun Walk.
- A Virtual 5K option.
Participant Information
Registration for the 5K and 1 Mile Fun Walk is $25.00 per person. This fee includes a custom race bib and a finisher's medal. A professional timing service, Blue Cheetah Sports Timing, manages the event. Results are posted online immediately after the race, and on-site awards are presented for overall winners and age groups.
The event is held rain or shine, and refunds are not offered. For the virtual option, the race bib and finisher medal are mailed with the shipping cost included.
Location and Logistics
The race starts and finishes at Alice B McCullough Field, located at 497 8th Street in Laurel. Race packet pickup is available near the start/finish area beginning at 6:30 AM on race morning. Parking is available at the same location. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
