Kentlands | Lakelands 5K
The Kentlands | Lakelands 5K is a community run and walk event organized by the Kentlands Community Foundation. Now in its 33rd year, the event includes a main 5K run and walk plus youth races. It draws over 1,700 runners and walkers, more than 200 children in the Kids Run and Tot Trot, and over 2,000 spectators and community members at a post-race festival.
The post-race festival features live music, food vendors, giveaways, and family-friendly activities. A portion of race proceeds is donated to nonprofit organizations, and race revenue supports 14 year-round programs run by the Kentlands Community Foundation. These programs focus on arts, culture, education, environmental sustainability, and volunteerism in Gaithersburg.
The event is presented as a community tradition that brings together residents, families, athletes, and volunteers. Support comes from individual contributors and event sponsors, and organizers note that sponsorship and donations help sustain the race and the foundation’s programs.
