YWCA Minneapolis Women's Triathlon
The YWCA Minneapolis Women's Triathlon is an annual multisport event held at Lake Nokomis Main Beach in Minneapolis. This event focuses on the participation of women and girls, featuring a course designed to be accessible for various experience levels. The competition follows a standard triathlon format where participants complete a swim, followed by a bike segment, and concluding with a run or walk. Timing is measured across six stages, including the individual disciplines, two transitions, and the total finish time.
Participants can choose between two primary distances:
- Sprint Distance: 500 yard swim, 15.5 mile bike, and 5 km run / walk.
- Super Sprint Distance: 200 yard swim, 7.3 mile bike, and 1 mile run / walk.
The event offers several participation formats, including individual entries, two-person teams, relays, and buddy groups. A unique Century Team category allows two racers whose combined ages exceed 100 to compete together. The triathlon is also recognized as paratriathlon friendly, welcoming adaptive athletes with specific accommodations provided upon request.
The race incorporates sustainable practices, maintaining a 92% waste diversion rate through composting and recycling. On-course support includes specialized aquatic assistance such as noodle swimmers and novice swim caps. For those attending to support racers, a designated area allows family members and children to join participants as they cross the finish line.
