Yankee Springs Winter Challenge
The Yankee Springs Winter Challenge is the 16th annual winter trail race held in Yankee Springs State Recreation Area in Middleville, MI. The course uses a wooded single track 10k loop that runs past Hall Lake, Devil's Soup Bowl, McDonald Lake, and Long Lake. Runners compete in Michigan winter conditions on rolling single track trails.
Distances offered:
- 50K five laps of the 10k loop
- 25K one 5k loop plus two 10k loops
- 10K the main wooded single track loop
- 5K the same loop with a shortcut
A crew neck sweatshirt or a buff is included with entry; registration by December 8 guarantees a sweatshirt. The finisher award for the winter race is a snow globe. Cabins at the Long Lake Outdoor Center are no longer available for the winter race because of a management change. Nearby lodging options mentioned include the Bay Point Inn and the Gun Lake Casino.
