Yankee Springs Winter Challenge
The Yankee Springs Winter Challenge is the 16th annual trail race held at Yankee Springs State Recreation Area near Middleville, MI and organized by Switchback Endurance. The event uses rolling wooded single-track trails and takes place in winter, so course conditions vary with Michigan weather.
Distances offered:
- 5k
- 10k
- 25k
- 50k
The race is run on a 10k loop that passes Hall Lake, Devil's Soup Bowl, McDonald Lake, and Long Lake. The 5k follows the same loop with a shortcut. The 25k consists of one 5k loop followed by two 10k loops. The 50k is five laps of the 10k loop.
Cabins at the Long Lake Outdoor Center are no longer available for the winter race due to a management change. There are several hotels in the area, including the Bay Point Inn and the Gun Lake Casino.
Race fees include either a crew neck sweatshirt or a buff; entries completed by December 8 are guaranteed a sweatshirt. The finisher award for this winter event is a snow globe. Registration closes December 31 at 11:59 PM ET. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
