Yakima Skyline 25K - Ellensburg, WA
The Yakima Skyline 25K is an out-and-back trail race held in and above the Yakima River Canyon near Ellensburg, WA, on lands that were part of the ancestral home of the Yakama people and associated tribes. The route crosses high desert, rainshadow country and is exposed to the elements; conditions are often hot and dry. The course lists about 4,700 feet of elevation gain and loss over 25 kilometers.
The route is mostly singletrack with sections of rough, rocky trail and a few miles on a ridge-top jeep road. The profile includes two major climbs - an early ascent that gains more than 2,100 feet in just over two miles, rolling ridge miles, then a steep descent losing about 1,400 feet to the Roza Aid Station at mile 8 before returning on the same route. Course markings include arrow signs and confidence ribbons.
Aid stations: a full aid station at Roza (mile 8) and a minimal aid station near mile 12.5. Stations offer water, electrolyte drink, select food, gels, basic first aid supplies and menstrual hygiene products. All runners must be able to carry at least 32 ounces of water; equipment will be checked and failure to meet this requirement can lead to disqualification. There is no drop bag or crew access.
Event logistics note free primitive on-site camping for tents and small RVs (max 25 ft) with no water or hookups, plus nearby campgrounds and overflow parking for participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
